Early Intervention

Early Intervention plays a great role in the development of all children with special needs. An early intervention specialist will work with a child to:

  • Develop play skills
  • Support emerging communication skills
  • Enhance social-emotional development
  • Provide educational support

As part of the Early Interventionalist's duties they will also work to support the parents with regards to informing them of community resources, appropriate play and play environments, and expected developmental milestones for their child.

The Hanen Program

The Hanen Program is a family-focused program for parents led by Hanen Certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs).

Through the use of activities and group discussions, parents learn to create and take advantage of everyday opportunities to improve their child's communication skills. Hanen Programs use a combination of group training sessions with parent and child, individual consultations with the SLP, and individual therapy with the child. This provides a comprehensive and personalized learning experience for each family participating in the program.

For parents whose child is experiencing a communication difficulty, Hanen's specialized programs can provide them with the tools they need for helping their child reach his or her communication potential.

"It Takes Two to Talk" is designed to help toddlers and preschool-ages children overcome language delays by educating the most natural teacher in their lives; you, the parent! The curriculum is taught by a Hanen certified speech pathologist through the use of lecture, workbook, video analysis and group discussion.
